Use the Route 1 scene drive from Portland. Take route 95 north from Boston or Portsmouth. From Portland, elect the scenic route along Route 1 north through Freeport (outlet shopping and L.L. Bean Company), Brunswick (Bowdoin College), Bath (Bath Iron Works), Wiscasset (stop for a lobster roll* at Red’s and explore the antiques), Boothbay Harbor (a boat ride and artisans), Damariscotta, Waldoboro (don’t miss Moody’s Diner*), Thomaston (shop at the prison store), Rockland (take a trolley to see the sights), Rockport (grab some groceries at Shaws), Camden (enjoy the harbor, try your sea legs on a schooner, and poke through the shops) then on to Lincolnville – 5.2 miles north of Camden – where you will relax and rejuvenate in your well-appointed cottage. From your “home base” at Bay Leaf Cottages you can explore the mid-coast of Maine including Acadia National Park!

ROUTE 95 TO AUGUSTA ALL THE WAY (longer but faster)

When coming up from the south, like from Portland or Boston, take Interstate 95 all the way to Augusta. Then Route 3 to Belfast, then Route 1 south to Lincolnville and Bay Leaf Cottages and Motel. This is longer but definitely the fastest way to get to our place.

FROM New BRUNSWICK AND NOVA SCOTIA

There are a number of options for coming from New Brunswick. Our route takes you across the border at Calais, down to Bangor, then to Belfast and Lincolnville.

If you are coming from Nova Scotia, you can take the ferry from Digby NS over to St. John's, then down to Calais for the border crossing.

For a more scenic route, when you crossover into the U.S. at Calais, follow coast Hwy 1 down through Machias to Bucksport ME (passing by Bar Harbor and Frenchman's Bay), on to Stockton Springs, Belfast, and into Lincolnville.

Coming from Nova Scotia, there is also the ferry from Yarmouth NS to Bar Harbor. Take the Bar Harbor Rd (via Hwy 3) from the island to join coast Hwy 1 around Ellsworth and onto Bucksport as above.
